ATCA Code of Ethics

The Australian Terrier Club of America recommends that Australian Terrier breeders screen breeding stock for Thyroid, patellar luxation, and congenital eye disease as part of the CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) program.

A good breeder wants to place each puppy in a good home where it can thrive and reach its best potential becoming a beloved pet and companion, regardless of whether it also will have a career in conformation, agility, obedience, therapy, earth dog, barn hunt, or other events.

“Getting to know you” as a puppy buyer may involve meeting in person (often at local dog shows), talking on the telephone, email and written correspondence, exchange of pictures, personal references, an application form, and sometimes a home visit.

The AKC Breeder of Merit Program honors breeder/exhibitors’ dedication and hard work as they continue to produce dogs that are healthy, capable, and beautiful. The foundation of today’s AKC Breeders of Merit have the power to influence, guide, and teach future breeders, exhibitors, and all purebred dog owners. Breeders must apply to the AKC to be recognized as Breeders of Merit and must meet the following requirements:
